Pachypodium Lamerei, native to Madagascar, is a member of the family of plants known as Apocynaceae. Other famous members of this family are the Adeniums ("Desert Rose"). Similar in outward appearance to a palm tree, Pachypodiums form thickened trunks that appear to be sculpted of shiny bronze wax, studded with thorns and topped with a canopy of sword-shaped leaves. Pachypodiums grow in the warm, sunny months and need to be watered thoroughly when dry during the active growing season. In the winter, Pachypodiums naturally lose leaves as this is their dormant (or resting) season. Water should be greatly reduced or withheld at this time. It is essential that the Pachypodium be planted in a very porous with adequate drainage. Can be used as a house plant in a brightly lit area. Pachypodiums can be planted outdoors in frost-free climes, or in areas with light frost provided they are given some protection. Can grow to 15' to 20' with age. Flowers are white and very fragrant.
This Pachypodium is grown with organic, pesticide-free methods. This is a gorgeous, healthy specimen currently in a 4" pot.
