Originally from Brazil. The Notocactus like to be kept cool in winter. Water occasionally in winter and regularly in summer. Spherical or short columnar, clustering, each stem up to 5 inches in diameter (12 cm).
The name "Notocactus" comes from the Greek "Noto" south and "Cactus" thistle.
Regular water in summer. Keep rather dry in winter; will rot if the substrate is wet and cold. Tends to lose its roots in winter.
Reproduction through seeds. Seldom produces offsets.
