The Neoporteria Occulta
hails from
Northern Chile (Antofagasta). It is solitary, slowly clumping as it ages, 2 inches in diameter (5 cm); with a tuberous root;. It generally has 8 to 10, up to 14 tuberculate ribs. The spineless form is more popular with the collectors; 0 or 1 central spine, 0.2 to 0.4 inch long (5-10 mm); 4 to 8 short radials, 0.12 to 0.44 inch long (3-11 mm). All the spines tends to fall as the plant ages.
This plant is currently in a 4" pot, purplish body, large, beautiful flowers when it blooms. Provide soil with excellent drainage as it is rot prone if soil has poor drainage.
Propagation through seeds.
