Agave Victoria Reginae

Agave Victoria Reginae

Gorgeous specimen of Agave Victoria Reginae - it hails from Nuevo Leon, Chihuahua, Mexico (where it is endangered). Named after the English queen Victoria, the Agave victoriae-reginae is a striking solitaire agave. Just beware of the sharp spine at the end of each leaf, and keep it removed from pathways. Several varieties are available in cultivation that offset heavily. Propagation through seeds or offsets. Temp zone: 9-12. Excellent full sun tolerance. Minimum Avg. Temperature: 50°F (10°C)

Each leaf has a sharp terminal spine. The slow growth justifies the sometimes steep price of mature specimens. The Queen Victoria Agave can be kept as a house plant in winter but should be taken out in summer. Many plant designers consider this agave to be one of the most beautiful and desirable for growing in a container, but is also excellent in landscapes where a strong architectural form is desired Some plants lose their white marking, and it seems that when this occurs, the markings never come back. This slow growing agave might take 40 years before blooming, the flower stalk is 10 to 15 feet with pale green to cream flowers. The plant dies after blooming.. Proper care requires porous cactus or succulent type soil with adequate drainage and bright light with ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry. It adapts well to cultivation and is hardy to drought and some frost, but protect from frost to prevent possible scarring; hardy to 28F. Plants grow to approx. 2’ tall x 3’ wide.

It is currently in a 6" pot. Plant shipped bare-root and well packaged. It will be as close to pictured as possible.
