Gorgeous specimen of Acanthocalycium Glaucum - originating in Belen, Catamarca, Argentina (seed grown). The genus name "Acanthocalycium" derives from the Greek words “acantha (ακαναθα)” meaning“thorn, spine” plus the connective vowel “o” used in botanical Latin for Greek words and “calyx” meaning“covering; calyx” referring to the flower buds bearing hair and spines.The species name "glaucus" derives from the Greek word “Glaucos ( (γλαυκοζ )” meaning "bright, gleaming; greyish, bluish-green” . The flowers are yellow or red and yellow blooming in summer, up to 6 cm long and in diameter.The fruit is dark green globose, 2cm in diameter. It has a tuberous root. Grows from seeds.
